School lunches create task!

Recently we’ve been learning more bad things about the recent school lunches and we had to make a create about it. We first thought about how our create would be presented, after some thought on how to carry out our plans for a create task we watched a video about the school lunches. During the video we quite quickly realised how much the lunches were hated around NZ. we learned that Finland had been feeding kids 6 dollar worth meals for free for 70 years while we get pig slop for halve the price for less than a year and it’s already hated by most. Some people need this food and they deserve healthier meals instead of having 15% of the 30% of nutrients that is meant to be in school lunches. The quality also depicts how much it costs one case at our school where the plastic cover had melted into the meals and we had to make sandwiches instead for safety reasons and they also came frozen one time!  There were too many things to add that we learnt from the video. After learning all about the school lunches we finished our creates tasks and  here is my finished create.

I choose to make my create how it is because it shows how some NZ parties aren’t doing their best while some are ans it relates to our recent work with Whaea Rebecca about making google drawings to fit with the Banksy spray paint theme. This is all based off of what our teachers have told us.

Sorry if blurry 🙂

The Great Marble Challenge take 2!

Recently in Te Ngahere we’ve been doing the great marble challenge V.2. This time we changed our groups. We also either had to make a new ramp or add on to our old one.

My group changed many things that included making a triangle base that was supported with cut straws and hot glue. This change made a huge difference with our results but came at the cost of the extra support we added being in the uneven carpet so that didn’t matter when it came to the finals.

We could have done better if we had left a full straw at the bottom instead of cutting it in half, we could have done better with managing our time instead of playing around with straws. We also could have worked as a group more instead of one person doing the majority of the work and the other person doing small glueing operations.

My group’s ramp gained us eighteen points which was many more points than  my previous group.

Our instructions were a little clear but still had some instructions that were hard to understand for the testing group. Our instructions explained how to set up our ramp in simple words which helped the testing group set it up. Something that needed to be clearer was where to start the marble because it was confusing what straw you were supposed to start the marble on.

The thing I enjoyed most was testing our ramp and knowing that we had eliminated a variable after every modification we added.

Here is a google drawing of our ramp.

The Great Marble Challenge!

Recently in Te Ngahere we’ve been doing the great marble challenge. This is a challenge where you make a ramp that you can roll a marble down and it stops exactly 110cm from the end of the ramp. A different group would have to operate our ramp and we would have to write instructions for them to follow.

During this challenge my group done well with trying our best to fix any problems as quick as we can. We also did well sharing our ideas between our group and we also did well with  coming up with ideas to eliminate variables. I think we did amazing finding the angle that the ramp would have to  maintain for the marble to roll exactly 110cm from the end of the ramp.

Next time we do the marble challenge our group  will focus more, not argue and we will make sure to secure the components or base securely to the ramp. We could also make sure to consider everyone’s idea and not eliminate it before they talk about it.

During the challenge I found it difficult to remain calm when one person from my group would deny my idea when they hadn’t heard it. It was also hard to anticipate how the operators which was  different group would understand our instructions as they weren’t the best they could be.

Week 5 Panui

: In Te Ngahere we’ve been learning to Identify and analyze key themes and character actions in historical fiction texts. We were reading about a book called Want Relief. it is about castaways surviving on a island by eating seal meat and wearing seal skin cloths. This story was based on real castaways called Joseph and Mary Ann Jewell. I found it hard to create a diary for one of the characters because it was hard to write the story and some other details from someone else’s point of view. I found it easy to finish the story board because I used clues that the teachers gave us.

This is my filled in diary, if you read it you’ll start to get an idea about what this story is about, but here it is.

Sorry! its blurry

Our reading

Recently in Te Ngahere we’ve been learning to find and explain the main idea of the text Like, Share, Subscribe.  To help us find the main idea of the text we had a narrative mountain to fill in. for this we had to write where the story took place, who was involved, situation, what the rising action was, what the climax was wich is where the characters feel their most,  the falling action and the resolution. We also had to find the characters points of view and their different opinions. Another thing we had to do was figure out how the author used the language in the text to make the feeling’s during the situation stronger and how that language is used to make things funnier than they appear. The final thing we had to do was create a poster promoting the healthy use of social media.

Here’s my poster, take a look!

Music making

My Writing: In Te Ngahere we’ve been learning to make music. We had to try and make some music using Ta, Ta-di, Ta-ka-dimi. We also were learning to write music using notes. Before anything we had to get into groups and when we found our groups we had write a piece of music. Once we came up with a piece of music and had practiced it we had to perform our music to the rest of the class. I think my group did well with coming up with a beat and taking action on our teachers many different challenges we had to add. It was hard to get our timing right because one of the challenges was to use anything for a beat except and instrument.

Here’s my groups music video, have a look.

Film making

Paihia School has been making movies, my groups movie is about a prison escape. Our group did well with filming because it only took us two days to film everything and two days to edit. We also did well I think with our costumes and props because we always had them when we needed them,  we all brought something. Next time we could be faster writing the script, storyboard, brainstorm,  we could all find a better group next time because we’re all friends and we messed around a tiny bit. We also need to think about where the characters are placed because some senses you cant really hear anyone talking We could also find better places to film the more like a jail cell, prison and battle zone. It was hard to come up with a theme because we all had different ideas just as good as each others. We also found it hard agreeing with each other on where to film, what happens, who plays what part and who was going to film. In the end we finished and had created The Not So Great Escape.

Take a look.

Words

In te Ngahere we’ve been learning to use inference skills to help us understand how the characters words and actions affect each other in the poem “words.” For this we had to find clues in the text to find out what the narrator was called during lunch play, there were clues that would help us find out what the narrator was called. We also had to try and make connections to the text and our own experiences. We had to fill in this with what the narrator did in the story and how he was feeling. Here’s my picture of what the narrator did and was thinking.

learning how to make a mystery picture quiz

I learnt how to make a mystery picture quiz using google sheets.

It was fun filling out the mystery quiz that was already made but it was even better trying to make one!

It was challenging at first to create a mystery picture quiz because there were so many instructions to understand.

This tool will be useful when I want to test my friends brain.

The presenters helped by talking in a clear voice and by explaining each step in a simple way.

If I was running this activity I would explain how to unzip pictures because that stumped me.

The Umawera Pixel Art challenge

I learnt how to make pixel art on a google sheet. I also learnt how to make a smooth curve and a circle with pixels.

It was fun to experiment with different shapes and objects made out of pixels.

It was challenging to get a dolphin shape, it was hard to fit everything in and it was hard to make a good tail.

This tool will be useful when we have to make a DLO about something on a google sheet.

The presenters helped me to understand what we were doing because they spoke in a clear voice

If I was running this challenge I would add a competition and the winner of the best pixel art
